For OR Against: Origins
The idea for the show, For or Against, came out of my experience in college, or rather my experience just off campus where I should have been doing college related studying but was really just wasting thousands of dollars in tuition.
I used to have a roommate, who like me, would rather do anything but study. Often we found ourselves procrastinating by holding lengthy discussions in an erudite (didn’t even need spell check on that one) manner, on a host of sophomoric (that one took two tries) topics. We found it endlessly amusing trying to convince each other that while “Dirty Work” is one of the most underrated movies of all time, Artie Lange is just a fat coke head, or that while we’ve both been guilty of watching Comedy Central Scrubs marathons, there’s something unsettling about Zack Braff.
Such conversations could last anywhere from several minutes to several semesters. Ultimately though, each topic needed closure, so once we had talked the topic dry, or had to make a run for libations we would simply end the discourse by determining whether we were for or against said topic.
The conversations were truly ridiculous, and the amount of time wasted on them should probably be considered embarrassing (but won’t), but they were what made college so much fun.
That’s where the idea for the show came from. We hope to waste your time in the same way we wasted, and now continue to waste, ours.

For OR Against: Two Guys Who Know Way Too Much About Taylor Swift
The title says it all.

In this preview of the show, “For OR Against”, Michael and T-Box get into a deep discussion about Taylor Swift, and ultimately decide if they are “for” or “against” Miss Swift. It becomes clear halfway through that these two men might know a little too much about Taylor Swift, especially the one on the left. They both also know Patsy Cline and her music. we aren’t sure what to do about this situation.

For OR Against: The Google Wave

Maybe Hip just took their first swim in the Google Wave last night and the water was nice. For those who don’t know what the Wave is, at its simplest form it is an instant messenger that you can add pictures, videos and audio into. But that explanation doesn’t give it anywhere near the justice it deserves. Here are a handful of things that the wave does.

For OR Against: Maybehip.com

About a year ago, three of my good friends told me that they had an idea for a website. Actually, the term website doesn’t quite do justice to what they had in mind. They had an idea for an interactive online community where people come to watch original video programming unlike anything that’s on TV yet is still worth watching. Unfortunately, at the time, they had little more than just an idea, and I personally felt they’d be better off searching for gainful employment.
Over the ensuing months, however, the idea started to take shape and become more than just an idea. Pat, Rob, and Lexi started devoting serious time to their venture learning about blog platforms, professional video equipment, and how to work as a team. I had the privilege of popping in every few weeks to see what progress had been made, and in some cases offer my opinion. The hours spent brainstorming, flushing out ideas, and building the framework for what would eventually become maybehip.com was astounding.
Several months ago, they asked me to be more than just an “outside consultant” to bounce ideas off of and occasionally look over some technical coding issues. They asked me to develop an idea for a show and star in it. Any skepticism that I originally had about this venture had withered away, and I eagerly accepted the invitation.
The premise for my show was simple. Two guys discuss a host of topics and determine if they’re for or against them. The show is loosely scripted and mostly improvisational, but it really works because of the “magic” that happens during post-production under the guidance of Pat, Rob, and Lexi.
I feel fortunate to have been able to watch this “idea” grow into what it is today, and I wait with anticipation to see what it will become. I feel even more fortunate to be a part of the maybehip.com community. Do as I did. Check in with this group every so often. You will be amazed by their dedication, and by the growth maybehip.com will experience shortly. I am certain that like me, you will be “For” maybehip.com.
