Internet TV Weekly Picks: hitRECord.org
To learn about what hitRECord.org is watch this weeks episode of OK, Good Stuff.
I am very excited to see what comes out of hitRECord.org. If I weren’t so busy I would like to be more of a part in hitRECord.org. The biggest reason that Maybe Hip exists is because you no longer have to live in a certain location to be able to do something in film and media. I love that Joseph Gordon-Levitt has taken this idea and tried to do something really profound and game changing with it. He wants anyone in any part of the world to be able to be part of Hollywood. As he says it isn’t fair that some people just don’t get a chance to do something they want to because they don’t live 20 minutes from LA.

OK, Good Stuff: Movies That Changed My Decade
So there has been a lot of pressure on me recently from Pat Lothian. Not a bad kind of pressure or anything. It just is. Well Pat. Let’s face it. You’re a consumer of pop culture. You love it. This I have learned about you. I enjoy this about you. Whenever I need to know something that is current, you sir, are my lifeline. Here’s a fact: Pat is reaching out to me. To get know me. That’s a really nice gesture, especially in a world when people don’t really care all that much. Whether Pat knows it or not, he is a lot like an episode of Seinfeld: “You are only as interesting as the books you read and the movies you see.” I’m sure I screwed that up. However, the sentiment remains. See, if Pat knows what your favorite movies are, he feels like he knows you. So, naturally, Pat wanted to know what my favorite movies of the decade are. Well. I had a really hard time. I don’t label things like that. So I sat down and tried to explain to Pat that I would rather not watch something, but instead rather create something. To no avail. He is not satisfied. So, here it is ten days into a new decade. I’ve looked into my life mirror Pat. Here’s what I can come up with for you. Some might say that this is a list of movies that changed my decade. Some might say that this is a list of movies that I remember seeing. I say, it is a bit of both.

OK, Good Stuff: My 20 Favorite Scenes of 2000-2009
I love movies. I love movies about war, movies about zombies, dance movies, sci-fi, indies, movies about life, & movies about love. I love movies where lots of big things happen, and movies with a few tiny, perfect moments. I love movies that make me think, and I love movies that make me laugh. So here are my top 20 favorite, most unforgettable movie scenes for the years 2000-2009 *SPOILER ALERT*:
20. The Hangover (2009): The ending credits. One of the best photo montages ever created in film. It summed up the entire movie in the most perfect way. These aren’t the actual credits below, but this YouTube clip contains some of the pictures from the end.

OK, Good Stuff: 20 Best Soundtracks 2000-2009
Now that I’m on a roll with the best of the decade, I’m onto new categories. I am a music fanatic, and there is nothing I love more than a fabulous soundtrack. So here are a few I recommend picking up if you haven’t already taken a listen. These are all memorable ones, and that’s why they make my list. I’m sure there are other good soundtracks for the decade, but for some reason they didn’t stick out to me and therefore didn’t make the top 20. Let me know if I missed any great ones (by commenting below), and I will maybe give them another chance.

OK, Good Stuff: My Favorite Films of the Decade
This week, just like last, I felt left out during the discussion of the most awesome movies of 2000-2009. If you haven’t seen Episode 6 yet, check it out now!
If you’ve seen the episode, you know that Pat defines the best movies by how many times he is able to watch them over and over again and still love them. And Rob’s favorite movies were all game changers in the film industry in some way. Well now it’s my turn. My favorite movies are the ones that I left the theater or finished watching and felt more emotion about them than any others. Some of them are more watchable than others, but they all made me feel something profound. For most of these movies, after seeing them the first time, I spent the next weeks and months thinking about them. I thought about how crazy it is that I could feel so much from seeing something on a silver screen.
So here are my favorite films from 2000-2009:
Honorable Mentions: Zombieland (2009): Not going to win any awards or anything, but I loved the action, premise, characters, and message of the film. This one will become a cult-classic – It will only truly be appreciated after a few years.
500 Days of Summer (2009): One of the best “stories about love” ever. It felt true to life, but more imaginative. There were big, impactful events that transpired, as opposed to many independent films where nothing significant in the movie actually happens and I feel as though I have wasted a few hours of my life. I loved this from beginning to end, and the soundtracks’ amazing.
Finding Nemo (2004): My favorite PIXAR film by far. This may be embarrassing to admit, but I cried twice during this one. The reason I love it is because of the theme of protecting each other. Everyone has to let go a little, or the little adventures we need in our daily lives will fly out the window. Robby said that WALL-E was the first animated film to address adult issues, but I think it was Finding Nemo.
Old School (2003): Flat out just an amazing movie. This film brought awkward comedy to the forefront. Consider how many times in your life you’ve said, “Earmuffs!” or “I’ll do one!” or “Bring your green hat!” Don’t tell me this movie didn’t revolutionize comedy for the next decade because it most certainly did.

OK, Good Stuff: 2010 Movies I’m Excited About!
In the current episode of OKGS, Pat and Rob discuss the 2010 films they are most excited for, as well as a few they are sure will disappoint. Although, I have say that after seeing Hot Tub Time Machine’s trailer, I am psyched for that one. Being the one who edits and puts together OK, Good Stuff is rewarding, but also a challenge for me as I find myself more often than not wanting to be a part of the conversation. So for this episode’s blog, I will be giving my top choices for 2010, as a well as a few stinkers of my own.
For those of you who have not seen episode 5 yet, watch it RIGHT HERE RIGHT NOW.

OK, Good Stuff: Avatar
You can watch our full review of Avatar here. Below are some points that we wanted to add onto our full review. Plus a fans take on our background. Thanks @Eric_Erb.
One thing I forgot to mention during our review is regarding the music in Avatar. A number of times during the movie, I thought, “This music makes this part of the movie feel a lot like ‘Titanic’”… and behold, for Avatar, James Cameron called upon James Horner, the award-winning composer who scored music for “Titanic”. Unfortunately, in Avatar, the music is too similar to what we’ve already heard from Horner. Don’t get me wrong, he is a fantastic composer, and the music in Avatar was very good, I just don’t think the songs composed were the right selections for this movie. At times, the music felt cheesy and over the top.

Instant Movie Review: Avatar
Welcome to the Instant Movie Review – the place where we talk about movies before the popcorn kernels have even been picked out of our teeth yet.
For this first installment, Robby, Pat, and special guest Kevin (from Your News) talk about Avatar – Exciting! This new James Cameron film has had big expectations, so I’m sure you’ll want to know if and how those expectations were met. So, the film stars a number of talented people (too many to really talk about here), and takes place in the future on a planet called Pandora where there is a very valuable mineral deposit that the humans want to take for their own. In order to do that, they have to get the natives to trust them, hence…you bring in an Avatar – 50% human DNA, 50% Na’vi.

OK, Good Stuff: More Internet Shows
As discussed in episode 2 of OK, Good Stuff, some of the big TV networks are jumping into the world of online video. One network which we didn’t mention in the episode is Fox Television Studios, who earlier this year, quietly launched a digital component, called 15 Gigs. Compared to other networks’ online content, this digital shop created by Fox looks to be more of a digital incubator for short internet shows that may potentially turn into full series on television. So in essence, the presentation of these shows on the internet acts as a bunch of “pilot” episodes for these programs, and allows Fox to see what works, what doesn’t, and what can be changed to potentially turn these into full TV shows, all done with relatively little money, and without wasting precious TV time on actual pilot episodes.

OK, Good Stuff: Behind the scenes – Ep 1
OK, Good Stuff… man, we had so many ideas for this show over the many months we were brainstorming the idea of Maybe Hip. Pat thought of the name for this show, but that is the only thing that has stayed the same since we first thought of it. In fact, before we decided to create an entire Internet video channel, OK, Good Stuff was going to be our only video podcast that we were going to do for fun. Pat and I, talking about whatever it is we talk about… except on camera.
Well, as we developed the idea for OKGS and Maybe Hip in general, we were going to add different activities into the show and showcase different short videos we would create. Our discussions were going to be about anything and everything going on in the world around us, as seen from the point of view of us young adults. Maybe we’ll bust out some of these activities, shorts, and discussion topics in the future, but despite these different fun ideas, the show just wasn’t focused enough. We were trying to do everything, and we worried the audience wasn’t going to follow along.
So, we stripped the show down to a conversation about pop culture and hip things in our world, such as movies, TV shows, and cool things on the web. We feel there is still SO much to say about these topics, and there is still enough variety to keep it interesting, but the show will make more sense to you guys, we hope, with the structure we added.
We hope you guys enjoy the first and future episodes of “OK, Good Stuff”… and remember to let us know what you like and what you don’t like. And hey, if you want the show to include shorts, activities, different discussion topics, or anything else, let us know because we’re definitely not counting any of that out.
