Your News: Episode 5
Another fascinating news team partay. Our numbers were small for the holiday season, but we got it done. Like we always do. There were some awesome news stories this week including one about Dubai’s economy, Michael Jordan suing a grocery store (because well, they deserved it), and a REAL internet scam!
The only thing you really need to know is that club penguin is a kids ’only’ website hosted by Disney.
Watch this weeks episode.

I wasn’t entirely right about the Santa Claus – Coca-Cola connection… but I wasn’t entirely wrong! Here is the full background on the connection, as explained by the marketers behind Santa’s success, the Coca-Cola Company!

We missed Kevin this week on Your News, but thankfully, Pat got his first attempt at anchoring and knocked it out of the park!
After the episode was over, we noticed that Pat had pretty much been emulating Kevin’s mannerisms throughout the entire newscast. It may be that there’s something special about that middle seat, but I think it had something to do with Pat’s new magic hat that he busted out for the first time on camera this episode. You see, Kevin has a similar hat, and I think the power of the old-timey gentleman’s cap does something magical… gives a man a fresh aura of confidence.
Actually, this is pretty much the first hat Pat has ever really worn (not counting that tie-dye baseball cap he wore in 5th grade) and there’s a story of a very interesting evening a couple weeks ago that led to Pat finding this very special hat…
If you want to hear more about the night Pat found his one and only hat, send us an email. The included picture comes from that night!

Your News: December 7th 2009
In only 2 episodes, I think it’s safe to say that T-Box has become the show’s official geek. Episode 1, T-Box brought up a story about proton packs and how the molecular make up of atoms makes scientific jargon collide into something related to chemistry or physics or one of the life sciences. Well, in Episode 2, he did it again, telling us about a molecular creation of a snowman created by a nanotech expert at the Quantum Detection Group. This story would have been just as nerdy as his first if it weren’t for the sweet picture of the snowman, saving T-Box’s totally dorky news story into a story that’s still quite geeky, but pretty cool at the same time.
If you’re interested in T-Box’s Bill Nye the Science Guy stories, let us know, and he’ll be sure to keep reporting on these wonders of the scientific world. If not, let us know what kinds of stories you want to hear us talk about on Your News, and we’ll be sure to remove the bookmark to the “Popular Science” website from T-Box’s computer.
We will also start our new Twitter story sharing idea. If you are on Twitter and you ever find a story, then give a brief explanation, the link, and add a #YourNews to the end of it. This way we can search for #YourNews and see all submissions and you can search to see what kind of news other people are looking at. Don’t worry if you don’t understand, just catch next week’s episode and we will explain it all then. For now, leave plenty of stories and topics you want covered below.

Your News: Behind the Scenes
Boy, am I thankful for the two outgoing guys who sit next to me on the first episode of “Your News”. T-Box and Kevin are great anchors for this show. We searched high and low for the perfect duo to help anchor Your News, and even though we never found those perfect guys, we’re happy we can settle for Kevin and Box.

Culture Clash – Decorations, Bread Shoes, Justin Bieber and Whale Penis?
Friday, November 27th, 2009
Kevin is upset by the overlap of holiday decorations when he sees a Halloween house right next to a Christmas house. T-Box goes shopping for shoes and finds his dream shoes, the kind you can eat. Robby is shocked by the influence of Justin Bieber on young girls. Patrick somehow finds a way to bring up Whale Penises. This is the best news out there? If you don’t think so then tell us what is. What is the news you want to hear about?

Your News: That’s our story and we’re stickin’ to it

I am very excited for the launch of “Your News”, the conversational news show that discusses the topics that most interest you! Instead of discussing the death toll in Afghanistan, we want to discuss the news that most interests the people of our generation. (And I am not giving any less importance to our generation being knowledgeable about war the Middle East or any fighting that is occurring anywhere in the world… it’s just that there needs to be a news outlet for news that isn’t always sad.) And when we say we want to deliver news that interests you, we really mean news that interests YOU! For the first episodes, our highly sophisticated news team will choose current hip topics that we find interesting, but because this is YOUR News, it is up to you guys, our viewers, to submit topics that interest you, or even send us specific stories that you want to hear us discuss on the show.
So while news stories geared towards your interests is one great aspect of the show, another great aspect is that “Your News” is the only news show (we think) that has normal people having real, interesting conversations about these topics. The “Your News” hosts may at times be opinionated, insightful, and entertaining, and most importantly, they will always be having real conversations about Your News.
Click in every week, starting December 3rd, to watch “Your News”, and submit and discuss news that interests you on our blogs, forums, Twitter, or email at yournews@maybehip.com.

Patrick on Your News
I am most excited for the prospects of “Your News”. For the last couple of years I have been getting more into learning about the world around me, but there are very few places I can go without getting frustrated.
Local news is only about who died today, the mainstream media still cares about what Sarah Palin thinks, and every other channel is about what celebrities ate for lunch. The idea of having a show where the audience gets to choose what is reported on is getting me pretty excited. Want to know about green technology? Done. Want to learn about movies and TV shows? Done. Want to know what happens in places outside of the US? Easy.
The best part is that what I want the show to be might not be anything like it turns out, because it isn’t about me; Its about the people who are watching it- YOU. At the beginning, we are going to dig up entertaining stories and things that interest most people, but once you start telling us what you want, we will give you anything. I would love to put on a show that really gets into what young adults think about politics and the rest of the world, but I guess I will have to wait and see what happens. So email us at YourNews@maybehip.com, write us on twitter, twitter.com/maybehip, or comment on this blog. Let your voice be heard any way you see fit. And then stay tuned for the first episode on December 3rd.
