Instant Movie Review: Green Zone

See what Rob & Pat thought of the movie “Green Zone” directed by Paul Greengrass, and starring Matt Damon.  The movie is based off of the events surrounding the Iraq war.  The writers created fictional events to fill in some the missing pieces that caused our country to go to war.  Comment below and let us know what you thought of this film.

Chicago Music: Facing Winter

From the guys of Facing Winter,

Relaxing with high-quality beers and friendly folks … this is how all interviews should be done! It’s just a great idea. We had good times chattin’ with Pat and Lexi. They have a kind of welcoming, familiar quality. It made for a quick comfort factor and lots of laughs, on and off camera.

This episode comes as we’re about to finish recording “Gifts from Gravity”, our second full-length album. It will be available mid-2010 on iTunes and a bunch of other sites. The first song on the album will be “Travelin”, which is featured in this Chicago Rocks! episode. Go to http://facingwinter.com and it will start playing automatically, followed by a selection of other FW tunes.

Our next big Chicago show is at the Double Door on April 21st. That’ll be a Wednesday night affair with two other bands: Chicago’s own MacGuffin, and fantastic Michigan indie band Valentiger.

Internet TV Weekly Picks: You Suck at Photoshop

Since the 2010 Streamy Award nominees were announced this last week, we decided to pay tribute to a show that was nominated for three Streamys in 2009 and won the award for “Best artistic concept in a web series”.

“You Suck at Photoshop” is unique because the entire time, the viewer is watching a video screenshot of the narrator’s computer.  The whole premise is in each episode, the narrator is teaching us, the viewers, a different skill in Photoshop to alter images.  The narrator, though, played by co-creator Troy Hitch, is digruntled,  bitter, and upset about his cheating wife.  Do you think he sounds like Dane Cook?  The show is really hysterical, and even offers some good tips for Photoshop!  You can see Pat and I discuss the show on episode 14 of OK, Good Stuff.

“You Suck at Photoshop” can be seen on My Damn Channel.

Indie Music Weekly Picks: Ex Norwegian, Rachel Goodrich

This week we went with a little South Florida theme since Rob & Lexi were just there, and are now pining for the warm weather. Both artists encompass two different sounds that invoke visions of  Miami Beach, and summertime fun. Check out the episode of My Indie Life.

Ex Norwegian is a rockin’ band from Miami.  who have a powerful sound that’s irresistibly poppy & easy to love. They have a range of influences from Procol Harum to Enrique Inglesias to Nirvana. I definitely pick up on a “Kinks” vibe.  Definitely diggin’ it.

Rachel Goodrich is a cool, quirky lady, also from Miami Beach. She plays a plethora of instruments, including guitar, keys, uke, harmonica, xylophone, banjo, mandolin, spoons, pots, pans, and kazoo….oh, and she sings. I especially enjoy her song called “Light Bulb”.

Her voice, mixed with the instrumentation reminds me of 1940s jazz-country-folk. Very cool.

Does It Go With Bacon? – Twinkies

Every once in a great while all of us ponder those important questions in life.  This blog covers one such question: Does it go with bacon?

I guess the first question you have to ask is what is a Twinkie and why does it always taste stale?  The second question would be why would you ever think of sticking a piece of bacon into the middle of a Twinkie? and the third question is I don’t know why I would ever think of doing that?  I guess this can just be one of those learning experiences that I keep hearing about.

Also I am watching Friday Night Lights right now.  Find this show and watch it now.  Also get Netflix there are many episodes streaming on the site.  Oh and watch the video to see what we thought about Twinkies and Bacon.

You can see even more bacon combinations here.

Internet TV Weekly Picks: Joe and Kate

This is a quick, 6 episode series, which does a great job of capturing the humor of a long-term loving relationship without much exaggeration.  The show chronicles Joe and Kate in their house together partaking in their everyday activities.  The humor develops from the fact that these two are so comfortable around each other, so they can be their real selves around each other.  And as I see it, nothing is funnier than the way we act when we act as if no one’s watching.  You can see Pat and I discuss the show on episode 13 of OK, Good Stuff.

Joe and Kate (which can be found at strike.tv) stars Joe Kelly, a writer for “How I Met Your Mother” and Kate Purdy, who has written for MadTV.  Watch episode 2 below, and then head over to strike.tv to watch the entire series. It’ll only take you 6 minutes… why not check it out?
